now correct me if i'm wrong but i've been heard that maggots are good because they only eat dead and diseased flesh. removing them is more detrimental because they eat all of the dead flesh and ensure no infections happen

You're right about the maggots. Idk about the infection part though. One can still get an infection despite maggot therapy.
I still want to know what happened. What tropical disease does this. It looks like trauma to me. Machete trauma.
